Start with the napkin flat. Fold in one side to the center and then the other. Turn the napkin over. Make accordion-type pleats but leave a few inches unpleated. Fold one side across and over the other. Tuck the free corners in amongst the pleats to make the support. Spread out the fan and stand it up.How to fold the Napkin Standing Fan
Ease of Folding: This design takes time and is complicated to hold and fold.
Fabric: This design requires a fairly stiff fabric to hold the folds and stay upright.
Precision: Precise folding is not critical but it does make the pleats more uniform.
Variations: The animation shows a version that conceals all the borders: the borders are initially folded in to the center (Frame 3) and the bottom border is folded under, away from the front view, (Frame 5). This effectively conceals the free borders. However, if the napkin has attractive borders which you wish to leave showing – fold the napkin in half with the borders on the left in Frame 3.
